Wards Coaches - Oldham?
« on: Saturday 11 February 23 09:26 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any information about/connection with Wards Coaches from Oldham/Ashton-u-Lyne? (Early 20C)

Looks like the firm may have been started by a second cousin of mine and I’ve been working though his 15 children.

Seems that the family may have also been involved in funeral direction.

What kind of information are you looking for?
Have you searched local newspapers?
Have you looked for the names you have in 1921 and 1939?
I don’t have full access but 1921 indexes have these when I search via occupation.

Harold Ward b 1898, Denton
Norman Ward b 1901 Denton

Their father George was a coach proprietor in 1901.

Thanks. I'm simply looking for any info. on the company itself or possibly connect with anyone with an interest in the company or family. I've more or less exhausted the archives with respect to individual  people in the family so there's no need to go there - I can probably help others with that info.

Have you looked in any trade directories for Ashton under Lyne? If you are not local to Ashton, let me know and I will try to look next time I go to Tameside Local Studies and Archives Centre.

Thanks very much for the offer but I’m not that far from Tameside archives and it’s neither crucial to my research nor important enough for me to spend time going there.
