Charles Wright - Westminster Records
« on: Monday 13 February 23 15:59 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,

I am researching a Charles Wright who lived in London. He was married to Eliza and they had a number of children - Eliza Pudsey Wright (1821) and Thomas (1825) are the two that I have found but there are others as Eliza is described as the eldest daughter in one document. These children were baptised at St James, Piccadilly.
I would like to find out when he married Eliza, his occupation and the names of the other children.
He must have been a man of means as he was a member of "the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen" and attended the Duke of Yorks funeral in 1827.

Paul
I lived in Ardwick, Manchester in the early 1960s as a small child and much travelling of the world has now led me to want to know more about my roots. Carter, Beckwith, Connolly, Heron and Kelly are all names that form part of my family tree.

There was an Ann Pudsey Wright as well baptised at St James 27 Apr 1823.

Other Wright children around that time baptised at St James with parents Charles & Eliza

Charles born 26 Sep 1819 and baptised 25 Oct 1819. (This record has also been transcribed as bapt 1820)

The baptismal record for Eliza Pudsey gives address I think, as Colonade, Haymarket, and occupation Wine Merchant.
There are some very interesting newspaper pieces in December 1832 re Charles Wright, Opera Colonnoade , Haymarket and a Wine Merchant.
Headed "Lunacy of Mr Charles Wright, Late of the Opera Colonnade, Haymarket"
It mentions amongst loads of other claims, that he had attended The Duke of Yorks Funeral ( and indeed was his son).
Available FindMyPast or British Newspaper Archive if you think it might be your man.

Thats my man as I know he attended the Duke of Yorks funeral in his capacity with the Corps of Gentlemen.

I have access to FindMyPast so will start to look but this is an avenue I hadnt expected.

Strangely enough there is evidence of mental illness in later generations.........
