Thanks,

What a strange turn of events. No wonder I couldnt find him in the Census. I will check his wife and the children to see if I can pinpoint where they are. Thomas was in the Indian army by 1845.

I lived in Ardwick, Manchester in the early 1960s as a small child and much travelling of the world has now led me to want to know more about my roots. Carter, Beckwith, Connolly, Heron and Kelly are all names that form part of my family tree.

Son George Pudsey Wright.

Married 24th September 1863 aged 30. Spouse Annie Wemyss Black. in Edinburgh

George's father--Charles Wright --deceased, mother Eliza Scott, formerly Wright, Maiden surname Wright.

John

Thanks,
Can you explain the mother here......Eliza Scott (remarried?) and that she was also called Wright before her marriage to Charles?

Eliza Wright, widow, married William Pulteney (sp?) Scott on 12 Oct 1839 in St. John, Hackney. Her father was George William Wright, esquire, so she was indeed a Wright by birth.

So is there a marriage record of Charles Wright and Eliza Wright at the right period?

Poor old Charles didnt last long after the newspaper article about his state of mind if his widow remarried in 1839.

Any ideas about his date of birth?

Still looking for more information on Charles, but I finally managed to find Eliza and children on the 1841 census:

There was a baptism at St James of an Ann Pudsey Wright 26 May 1788 with parents Thomas & Ann.  Could this be Charles sister

This couple also had a son called Charles in 1791, so definitely looks possible.

William P*  Scott left a probate record in 1875. It names his widow as Charlotte Mary.

Marriage
Marriages Dec 1870

DRAKE    Maria        Kensington    1a   15
EVANS    Charlotte Mary        Kensington    1a   15
KENT    Thomas        Kensington    1a   15
SCOTT    William Pulteney        Kensington    1a   15

So it looks like Eliza died 1861-1870
