British non combatant citizen taken prisoner by Nazis in N France 1939/40
« on: Wednesday 15 February 23 05:12 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out if a Wilfrid Harvey Humphreys a British citizen and British Pro-consul, living in Tourcoing, N France, was taken prisoner by the Germans after they invaded France and took civilians capture.  He had been living in France for many years and was married to a French woman. He was born 28.08.1904 London.
Are there any records of British civilian POW?

Yes. They were called civilian internees although they were treated pretty much the same as the military. You will find his details in WO 416 at TNA. https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C16989228

Wilfred Humphreys was my grandfather married to  Louise Desoubrie. They had one son Roger. My dad was born in 1939 in Mouscron Belgium and was a wool broker. He passed away in 1991 in France. I have one brother Gerald who lives in France. I live in Jersey Channel Islands

 Are we related?
Hope to hear from you

Just to update this thread for the benefit of future searches, there's a very helpful video produced by TNA on Youtube which covers not only records of civilian internees held at TNA but also discusses some of the other sources:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHVDsnU61M0
