British Soldier India Marriage - 1850
« on: Wednesday 15 February 23 10:06 GMT (UK) »

I am researching a soldier called Thomas Wright, born 1825 in London.
He went onto become a high ranking officer in the British (Indian) Army between1850 and 1900.
I have a record of a marriage to a Clara Dempster in Ludhiane in 1850. I would like to confirm this and obtain a copy of the marriage cetificate if possible.

Thanks,
Paul

I lived in Ardwick, Manchester in the early 1960s as a small child and much travelling of the world has now led me to want to know more about my roots. Carter, Beckwith, Connolly, Heron and Kelly are all names that form part of my family tree.

Firstly, I need to confirm that it is correct and then dont I need a reference number?

You won't find it at the GRO.

British Library (India Office) maybe.

Newspaper reports of the marriage per FIBIS:

Note that at that time he was not in the British Army. He was an officer in the army of the Honorable East India Company (HEIC or EIC).

Thanks,
Would I be able to get a copy of the actual certificate? Might that have details of his father and his profession?

Perhaps you could track down this EIC cadet application record - I can't see it at FindMyPast:
