Industrial accident in 1860s
« on: Thursday 16 February 23 10:27 GMT (UK) »
James Storrie, a coal miner, aged 24, died in Kilmarnock on 13 January 1867. Cause of death was fracture of spine 18 months, and bedsores. So presumably he must have suffered some sort of accident some time in 1865 (later than about the end of March as his daughter was born on 28 December 1865).

I've had a look in the British Newspaper Archive and in the catalogue of the National Records of Scotland for any reports of how he fractured his spine, so far without success.

Any suggestions?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Not sure if he might have been involved in any of these events: http://www.scottishmining.co.uk/330.html
Of course, a single non-fatal (at the time) accident might have gone unreported. Accidents were pretty common in mines.
TNA might also be worth a look: https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C1009

Thank you.

Nothing that I can see in the first one, and the second would require a visit to Kew. But I've made a note of the reference.
