the name Peem

further to the questions related to the meaning of the name Peem. I am James (Jim) and my name at school was Peem. Very commonly used in Glasgow and Paisley. Being the smallest of two in my school I was therefore known as Wee Peem - Little Jim

Very interesting, I have never heard "James" referred to as "Peem".  :)

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

There was a boy called Peem in the village I was raised (Plains, Lanarkshire) where nicknames were very common. This area like most in the 19th century had large families and the common method of naming followed in Scotland was to name the first son after the Grandfather and thereafter down the Uncle lines, this resulted in several grandsons in a family all called James or John, in my family we had Big John and Wee John Reddington, the Kane family in Plains was so big the only way to recognise one was by his nickname, Duck Kane, Baldy Kane, Moon Kane etc. because they were all called John.
