CARROWNAMADOO
« on: Friday 17 February 23 00:04 GMT (UK) »
My REILLY ancestors came from this place. Ggrandfather John, his father Patrick his mother Mary May, Patrick's father Hugh. 1901 census shows only 11 families in this place. Would be pleased to speak to anyone related to or who knows this area. Thank you.

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Well, Carrownamaddoo townland is in Ahamlish civil parish, and east of the village of Grange.

Think heywood has the right townland.

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

There are 3 townlands of that name in Sligo and from the census you mention this seems to be the place - parish of Skreen
https://www.townlands.ie/sligo/tireragh/skreen/skreen/carrownamadoo/

1901 -there are 11 houses
Patrick, Mary and family
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Sligo/Skreen/Carrownamaddoo/1678542/

Is this the right family?

Presumably you have other records for the family.
Hopefully someone may have connections for you. :)

Carrownamaddoo is a townland. That’s an Irish land administrative term. (There’s not necessarily a town in a townland and there isn’t in this case). It’s 406 acres in size and in the 1901 census it had a population of 43, all of whom were engaged in farming in one way or another save for 1 shopkeeper and 1 dressmaker. All were born locally save for 1 man born in America.

Thank you all for your help. Can anyone tell me which cemetery would be the most likely resting place of people from Carrownamadoo. Thank you again, Rob.

Hi

My gt grandparents were buried at the Church of Ireland  Skreen but as the Reilly family appear to be Catholic then I would not expect them to be buried at that church. The Catholic Church is St Adamnans and there is a cemetery just down the road according to Google maps.
