I'm very new to this.  My last remaining grandparent died 2 weeks ago and that was the catalyst for me to finally start this journey.   It's definitely a lot of work, especially with many of my ancestors coming mostly from the UK.  I really appreciate you taking the time to help me and get me on the right track.  Thank you.

I'm sorry about your loss.

I can't find anyone that matches his profile with those parents on the censuses  or birth reg/baptisms that fit. It could be that he gave misleading info on the marriage cert.  and/or the info on the immigration record is not him.

What age did it give for his death?

Thank you.

81 or 82 at death.  I think I'll order his marriage certificate for his marriage here and hope he's put his correct birthdate on it.  Maybe his death certificate too.

Keep us up to date with your findings and  we'll help as much as we can.

I was born and grew up in Denbighshire and many of my ancestors were born and died  in the county, Flintshire and Merionethshire.

I will and it's great you're familiar with the area from your own history.

Widowed 13 January 1868
Arrived in Australia February 1868 on "Great Britain"

Something seems wrong here. How long did it take to get to Australia from GB in those days?

Re age - he may have taken a few years off his age in the marriage cert  given the age difference.

Probably around three/four months Gadget - give or take.  :)

Caroline, have you checked the passenger records of that William Hughes? You may find additional details which could help you decide if this is likely to be your William, or not.
