Need help Understanding 1633 Will of John Walter
« on: Friday 17 February 23 11:54 GMT (UK) »
Hi there

I have found what I think is my 9th great grandfather's will - John Walter from Winterslow, Wiltshire. I was hoping that the will mentions his wife, as I have no idea who she was. I can't see her name in the will - even though it does say wife - but I may be missing something. It mentions his children by name and they all fit my family tree apart from one Agnes - I have an Ann instead.

Could you please have a look to check for name of wife and if Agnes might be Ann.

Thanks.

Liz

Agnes is definitely Agnes, and his wife is not named.

It shows Agnes - but several times I have seen Ann transposed to Agnes and vice versa. Ditto with Jane and Joan.

Thanks - that’s really helpful. Good to know that Ann/Agnes could be the same person. My search for his wife goes on!

In my experience, mainly in Irish records, Agnes, Nancy, Ann are often interchangeable. or used as short forms one for the other/s.
