What is DOA on a birth certificate

Hi All,

Does anyone know what DOA on a birth certificate means?

It's not dead on arrival as the person is now in their 80's and very much alive.

The certificate has the person's date of birth the DOA and a date 8 years later.

Could it be date of adoption? Would that go on a birth certificate?

Yes it's an English certificate and having just checked no he wasn't adopted.

What column is it in? Or is it a marginal comment?

Does the birth appear in the GRO index at both the original registration and the date 8 years after his birth? And if so, using the images of the old paper indexes (at FreeBMD) is there any kind of cross-reference between them, or any other annotation?

Sorry for the late reply, I don't have access to the certificate at the minute, I was asking for a friend who asked me.

I thought it might have been a common abbreviation but obviously not.
