James Nutter 1921 Census help
« on: Friday 17 February 23 22:32 GMT (UK) »
I’m a bit stuck with James Nutter and the 1921 Census.

I’ve been going through my tree and downloading the 1921 for my ancestors that were around at that time as they have a 1/2 price deal on today, I’m hoping it lasts a few day, fingers crossed. Anyway back to it

I’ve been looking for James Nutter BIRTH 4 FEB 1876 • Nelson, Lancashire, England
His parents are Richard and Sarah Ann Nutter.

He married Elizabeth Ellen Lee in 1900 she passed 1913

They had a child Eleanor Nutter in 1901

I believe he then married Pauline Howarth in 1917 and they had a son Geoffrey who died in child birth 1918

Pauline passed in 1963

James passed away back in 1949 and it was registered In Nelson,Lancashire, England

According to the info I have they last lived at 9 Furness Street, Burnley, Lancashire, England in 1911.

I thought I’d found him in Burnley in 1921 but when I downloaded the Census it’s not them it is a James Nutter but married to an Ellen with 2 more children. Good job it’s half price today…

Children on that census are Fred and Edith but I can’t find another marriage to Ellen or the birth of these children for my James Nutter and I can’t find a 1921 census for James. I’ve been at it all day and I’m now bogeyed and would appreciate fresh eyes to take a look.

If anyone can help I’d be really greatful  :)

Freebmd shows 3 James Nutter births in Burnley in 1876 so presume yours is the March qtr reg.

However - are you sure he is the same James Nutter who married in 1917?

GRO online shows these other Nutter/Lee births in the Burnley RD but I can't find another Nutter/Lee marriage in Burnley (could have been elsewhere then moved to Burnley)

1921 free index

Pauline Nutter b1886 in Burnley, Lancashire, living Burnley, Lancashire. In household of Clara Wormwell & family who was a witness at marriage for Pauline & James in 1917.

Maybe she was visiting friends or the couple had split up?

I think Clara was Pauline's sister . Clara Haworth married Arthur Wormwell 11 June 1902 in Burnley. Pauline was a witness.

Thank you Carole, my James was born in Nelson in 1876 and they moved to Burnley sometime before the 1911 Census. And their daughter Eleanor was also born in Nelson.

I’m not wasn’t 100% sure about Pauline Howarth and baby Geoffrey but further down the post is mentioned that the electrol register shows Pauline and James at 7 Clayton Street so maybe she was away for the day visiting as previously suggested too.

I love this group your all awesome  ;D
