David Johnson Date and what uniform is he wearing

Campaign medals were awarded in the early 20's so anytime
during WW1.
The only other snippet is that he's wearing the pre 1916 uniform
so looks like he volunteered 1914-15 which doesn't mean that's when it was taken.
What was his name? (including any middle name)

Clothing suggests mid-1910s so it might well be before he went to the front.

Thank you. I think thet it does seem like Carol has a point. The 2 younger girls at the front Grace was born 1906 and Lillian in 1909 so could it be about 1915/16?

His name was John William Johnson born 25 September 1895. I had heard stories from relatives he had been injured and had shrapnel in his back.

Unfortunately there are several of that name in the NF however
I was drawn to this man:
38255 Pte. John Willie Johnson attested Nov. 1915.
He appears on the SWB list in 1919.
First in the 7th. Btn. & then transferring to the 22nd.
You also stated he was in the RAF WW2 & found this man:
3/10149 Pte. John William Johnson 1st. Btn. but transferred to the RFC.
More research needed.

According to Michael Barthorp British Army Uniforms since 1660 1982 Blandford Press ISBN 0 7137 1127 2, page 112, where he describes the new khaki service dress issued in 1902 "collar badges were not worn but regimental titles or initials were embroidered in white on a red background on a curved strip of material sewn just below the shoulder seam [...] In 1908 these embroidered titles were replaced by brass titles on the now fixed shoulder straps from which the piping had been removed."
