JOHN EARNSHAW WW1
« on: Monday 20 February 23 17:23 GMT (UK) »
JOHN  EARNSHAW died on 10 Dec 1918 after war service with the Lancashire Fusiliers. According to surviving records he died at his home at 29 Taylor Street, Preston. He was already widowed; his wife had died in Jan 1917. No trace of him has been found in Preston Cemetery (Council). His children were in the care of a relative in Todmorden.

Does anyone know where John Earnshaw was buried? He was one of the many Forgotten Soldiers whose sacrifice was not commemorated.

There are many Todmorden Earnshaws - Malcolm Bull's "Calderdale Companion" - type it into your search engine, and go from there - is great! But you'll get sidetracked and fascinated!

Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Not sure what you mean Forgotten Soldier?
Pte 241187John Earnshaw formerly 11676
May have Died at Home
But was Still in the Army per his Silver Badge records B85843 show he was Not Discharged till after his Death
Discharged on 7 January 1919 and therefore still In Service and qualified for a CWGC Military Headstone
It is irrelevant that he died of Pneumonia in Preston
If he doesn't have a Military Headstone from the CWGC
Then he Now qualifies for one tobe Erected Now
He was awarded the British War Medal but not the Victory Medal because he appears to have not have served Overseas in a Theatre of War
though he Enlisted 8 January 1915 but obviously helped the War Effort based in UK
