Williamns Family in Anglesy

Hi All

just found this forum and hoping it will provide some information on what im looking for.

I'm looking for my Granmother, her name was Margaret Ellen Williams (Maggie) she was born 28th April 1905 and died 7th Feb 1984, she was married to a man called Owen John Roberts and had three children between them called William John Roberts, Dilys Roberts and Alwena Roberts.


the family stories mentioned she had a very large family and was commonly known as Maggie 20, as she was the 17th child and the only daughter in a family of 20.

the father i was told was a farmer in the Menai bridge area, but this is the only information i have or can find I'm hoping someone on here can shed a little light on the subject as i find it hard to believe coming from allegedly a very large family that there is no information on them, i am currently on ancestry and my heritage, and am looking through the various documents but there is very info, i have found her on the 1939 census but this places her after she was married and had all three children .

I note the birth and death you mention both in her full name Margaret Ellen Williams, her mothers maiden name was also Williams. Have you checked the 1911 census for the family?

I have had a look on https://www.familysearch.org/search 1911, and whilst there are plenty Margaret/Maggie Williams I do not see one with just brothers, how certain is that information do you think?

thank you for the reply, i have checked the 1911 census but couldn't find anything based upon the information i have.

unfortunately i am not 100% certain on the information, but it did come from her children, William john was my father and his sisters did all say the same thing, she was the only daughter and had a large number of brothers.

can I ask where you searched?

If this is the one baptised 11th June 1905 at Cerrigceinwen (about 10 miles from the town of Menai Bridge) then her parents are William and Margaret. Do you have a copy of her birth certificate to see if it is the right one?

In 1911 in Llandysilio, Druid Rd, Menai Bridge they have  a Maggie E Williams age 5.
Parents married 28yrs 18 children born 8 still living

When and where did they marry?

Do you have the marriage certificate?  If not, obtaining this would confirm her father's name and occupation, witnesses maybe family members

William's Occupation   LABOUR GENRAL, is the only difference to post.
