Presbyterian Records for Birth/Baptism for Limerick
« on: Tuesday 21 February 23 21:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I'm looking for info on my gg grandfather Joseph Donaldson Meharg.
I have a possible DOB of 27Aug1854
1901/11 census both list him as Presbyterian and born in Co Limerick
(I also have a marriage cert from 24 June 1880 showing marriage in Church of Ireland in Leitrim)
I am looking to find if there are any presbyterian birth/baptism records.

PRONI seems to only hold records for Ulster and https://www.irishgenealogy.ie doesnt have much.
https://presbyterianhistoryireland.com may have info, but seems you need to pay for membership.
Is there any other way of finding presbyterian birth/baptism records for Limerick?

Thanks,
Fergus

It won't do any harm for me to add some background information.

Belfast Weekly Telegraph, 15 July 1876: ULSTER BANK. - We learn with pleasure that Mr. Joseph D. Meharg, son of Mr. Hugh Meharg, Goshaden, has been promoted to the office of cashier in the Lisburn branch of the Ulster Bank.

Hugh Meharg died in 1893:

His will (annexed to letters of administration) can be read on the PRONI Will Calendars website:

Letters of Administration (with the Will annexed) of the personal estate of Hugh Meharg late of Fountain-street Londonderry Gentleman who died 7 January 1893 at same place were granted at Londonderry to Joseph D. Meharg of Aughnacloy County Tyrone Bank Manager the Residuary Legatee.

Northern Whig, 6 December 1858: MEHARG. - November 28, the wife of Mr. Hugh Meharg, Kilfinane, county Limerick, of a daughter.

Belfast Morning News, 16 May 1860: PRESENTATION AND ADDRESS. - (From a Correspondent.) - On Friday evening, the 26th ult., a number of friends met at the residence of Mr. Hugh Meharg, Glenosheen National School, and presented him with a beautiful writing desk and a collection of books previous to his leaving county Limerick to take charge of a school under Acheson Lyle, Esq., near Londonderry...

I have the census, the marriage cert and the will (which was fascinating, mentioning several nieces).
I also got some fascinating info direct from Ulster bank on his career there, from helpful people at archives@natwest.com, including a digital copy of his signature.

What I didn't have was the Belfast Weekly Telegraph showing new info for Goshaden (I knew he lived in Derry but not there) and especially that Northern Whig and Morning News info which gives new leads in Limerick (the sister birth date ties in too)
Thank you so much for that !!

Where are those newspaper archives stored. I have Ancestry membership but are those on a different paid site?
Thanks,
Fergus
