Welcome to Rootschat.

Yes I may have been wrong there with Sarah as looked at bapts of her and Roberts Children and they all have Mother as Sarah.

I had looked to see if Sarah Humphries had been married Withington, but as you say its under Elizabeth so that threw me.

Trish :)

Hi, the Withington Sarah Humphris is my 4 x great grandmother.  I have her marrying Robert Miles at Withington on 19 Nov 1800 so I don't think she's your ancestor I'm afraid.

The Withington parish register for her marriage has her name as Elizabeth but the signature is "the mark of Sarah Humphris".  The BT version of this entry has her name as Sarah.

Thanks Tony. I wonder if the John Miles living with my Sarah in 1841 is any connection to your family?

The Kings Stanley Records are on the website.

Forest of Dean Family History (free to join under register.

and cover Kings Stanley.

Also under Resources  are

Gloucestershire Marriage Licence Allegations 1637-1837  & Marriage Bonds 1730-1823.

Also the website, gives one the ability to search for witness at wedding, baptisms of children with adding the parents name etc. etc.  Also ability to use Soundex on surname as this could be spelt in many ways.

----

At Kings Stanley - on the 25 November 1776

Sarah HUMPHRIS - Spinster of this Parish
married
Charles MARMONT - Bachelor of this Parish

He signs, she marks.
The mark of Francis Webb and Philip Little.

---

It doesn't appear to be a problem is a woman had a child out of wedlock.

---

Again, 10 September 1781

Nathaniel HEBERT of this Parish, married
Sarah MARMONT of this Parish.

Witness: John and Philip LITTLE

And on the 16 May 1784, Sarah & Nathaniel HERBERT, have a daughter named Sarah.

I don't think so I'm afraid.  My Miles ancestors all lived in or around Withington and I haven't found any connection to the Stonehouse area.  I note the 1841 census has other Miles' (apart from John) living at Stonehouse so John may be related to them.
