Abraham Pye 1768 - 1838
« on: Friday 24 February 23 13:50 GMT (UK) »
I have an Abraham Pye born 1768 and died 1838. I have found a grave on find my grave which apparently has the following inscription
He was the first and for 23 years the faithful and affectionate Pastor of the Baptist Church worshipping in Providence

I can't find any details on him being a Pastor at all or where the church would be,  possibly Pitt Street?

Any help will be gratefully received

Thanks
Nicky

I often see these type of advertisements and was never really sure whether the people quoted were actual people or just made up names.  :D

"Wednesday last, aged 69, Mr. Abraham Pye, Minister of Providence chapel, Pitt-street, the oldest dissenting minister of this city. He was an affectionate husband, a kind father, a faithful friend, a pious christian, and a fervent, diligent benevolent pastor and 'an able minister of the New Testament'. The loss of him will be long regretted, and his memory revered by a numerous and affectionate family, and also by the church and congregation over which he presided nearly twenty-four years, and to whom he was much endeared by the kindness of his manners, and the integrity of his conduct, as well as by the faithfulness of his ministrations."
