POSSIBLE children of John Duggleby in Southoe?
« on: Saturday 25 February 23 01:02 GMT (UK) »
Hello Everyone

I wondered if you could help me please.

I have these entries from FamilySearch:

Raffe Douglaby bpt 12 Jul 1565 Southoe, Huntingdonshire

Rafe Dueblebye buried 12 Sep 1566   Huntingdonshire

Anne Dooggelbe bapt 20 Jun 1568 Southoe, Huntingdonshire, daughter of John Dooggelbe.

Agnes Doupylebye buried 21 Jul 1568 Huntingdonshire
daughter of J Doupylebye

Jane Dooggelbe bapt 20 Jun 1568 Event Place: Southoe, Huntingdonshire daughter of John Dooggelbe.

Jone Doupylebye buried   16 Jul 1568   Huntingdonshire
Father's Name   John Doupylebye

above 3 children APPEAR to be those of John DUGGLEBY (mispelled as is often the case!)

I am not really convinced and wondered if anyone might look at the original PR to try to establish if they are Duggleby or Doubleday or something else?

I am looking for a possible marriage of this John Duggleby If it is Duggleby) in or around Southoe please.

But also any information as to why John may be so far from home - most Dugglebys were from Yorkshire.

Thank you

Elly

Can't really answer your question as I don't have access to the parish register images, however just for interest, FreeReg have transcribed the baptisms of Joane and Annes on 15 July 1568. Not sure why there is this difference between familysearch and FreeReg. The FreeReg entries do say from the Parish Register.

There is also a burial for an Alyce DUGLEPE in 1586 in Lyminster, Sussex.

I actually put DUGGLEBEY as surname with soundex, from 1500 to 1600, baptisms.  :D

Thank you

This is really helpful will now search using the county rather than the parish given that familysearch says it was Southoe and FreeReg says stanground.

The Huntingdonshire baptism index also gives Stanground.  Familysearch places aren't always reliable.

You will find the entries for Raffe/Rafe at Stanground on Freereg. If you enter only a first name and parish with a year range they will show up.

thank you

I did as you said put in first name only and did county wide and they did show up. After that I did a county wide search D* and a few more popped up, which included John DINGLEBY (assuming it is the father) burial 1584.
