6th Battalion, Cork No 2 Bgde, Old IRA - which area ?
« on: Sunday 26 February 23 05:00 GMT (UK) »
I found this:

https://www.corkcity.ie/en/cork-public-museum/exhibitions/past-present-exhibitions/the-republican-forces.html

However, it only identifies battalions by area, and only after the 1921 splitting off of No 4 Bgde:

- 4 Bgde had 5 battalions (Mallow, Kanturk, Charleviile, Newmarket and Millstreet)

- 2 Bgde had 4 battalions (Fermoy, Lismore, Castletownroche and Glanworth).

So, does anybody know what the original seven battalions of Cork No 2 Bgde were - numbers and areas ?

Most roots researched back to the early/mid 1800s. Years noted as 'pre' refer to my direct ancestors, although I'm interested in any relatives:
Mitchelstown, Co.Cork: CORBETT (pre1935), SWEENEY  (pre1935), CUSACK? (pre1894), KEYS? (pre1894)
Mallow, Co.Cork: BROWNE (1895-1935)
Caher, Co.Tipp: BROWNE (pre1895), PURTELL(pre1895)
Cashel, Co.Tipp: FANNING (pre1886)
Llanelly, Carms: GRIFFITHS (pre1934), REYNOLDS (pre1901), WILLIAMS (pre1934)
Ton Pentre, Glams: LEWIS (pre1901)

Thanks Sinann. No specific reference to 6th Battn, and some confusion over possible duplication.

However, doing a bit of digging on that site the information on that page is from the IRA nominal rolls, which are available for free there via this link:

https://www.militaryarchives.ie/collections/online-collections/military-service-pensions-collection-1916-1923/search-the-collection/organisation-and-membership/ira-membership-series

The rolls were for 11 July 1921, which was after Cork 4 Bgde was split from Cork 2 Bgde, and 1 July 1922.

So I reckon that if I look through the 1921 rolls for all battalions of both Cork 2 and 4 brigades I should, with luck, find my man.
