Marriage 1866 Ffestiniog
« on: Sunday 26 February 23 15:38 GMT (UK) »
Good afternoon

William Lloyd and Elliw Jones: Ffestiniog 4th quarter of 1866.

I was wondering if it was possible to see the place of marriage whether Register office or Church from the GRO index ?

For your information.

William Lloyd born around 1843, Mochdra, (Llandrillo) Denbighshire
Elliw Jones (Howell born around 1848, Llandanwg (Dyffryn) Merionethshire

I do have their death dates but unfortunately not to hand, they were buried in Capel Rehoboth, Harlech where there are several other members of Elliw's family.

Their children were:
Robert, John Howell, Mary Ann (my great- grandmother), Jane, Moses and Gwen.

Bride's father was John Howell and she was frequently mis-transcribed as Ellin;  I know quite a lot about the bride's family but have got stuck on the groom.   So decided to order the marriage certificate to see if he had a father on it.  Several trees on A** have him being born on Ffestiniog but he is consistent in the census' as being born in Denbighshire naming Mochdra in one and Llandrillo in the other.   So I do not agree with the information without more proof. I've had a good trawl through the 1851 census and can't see a good match for him.

If you find a tree on Ancestry called Bare Bones tree thats my ancestry public tree.  I do have a much more detailed one but I do not publish it.
Thank you
Nesta

Interesting 1851, one to keep on file or rule out once marriage cert obtained.

1851
Piece:   2519, Folio: 194, Page Number: 26
Llandrillo yn Rhos, Caernarvonshire.
Parish of Mochdre
Registration District:   Conway

https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/DEN/Llandrillo

Name:   William Lloyd
Age:   9
Birth Year:   abt 1842
Relation:   Nephew
Where born:   Llandrillo, Denbighshire, Wales

In household of Robert & Anne Williams (both b1795) & family.  Ann same birthplace as William

Lots of niece & nephews in family, wonder if they were grandchildren? have seen this before down as niece/nephew when in fact was a grandchild. Just a thought.

Cas

Hello

Sorry for the delay in replying - August has been really busy with grandchild sitting, family holidays  and colleagues from work on holiday.

I found William Lloyd's father on the marriage certificate but it doesn't help much....

17/12/1866 William Lloyd (22) m Elliw Jones (19)
William's residence was Marketplace, Blaenau Ffestiniog and she was residing in Llandanwg, Merionethshire
parents were William Lloyd, (deceased) Labourer and John Howell (deceased ) Wool Weaver
witnesses were Robert Williams and Jane Howell (bride's sister)

The bride's family were still partially using the patronymic form hence the use of Howell and Jones (John's)

The male witness may be a clue as it could be linked to that 1851 census as the Head of House is a Robert Williams and there is also a Robert Williams there as nephew born 1846.   I think I might play around with this 1851 family and see where it takes me.

Watch this space  :D

Found him … well as sure as I can be ..that he is the 1851 William Lloyd that Cas found.   Couldn’t find a birth at all at the GRO … and looked and looked online for a parish baptism. I was heading to Conwy to get my car serviced so spent the time waiting for it at the Archives and bingo !   He’s actually the grandson of the Robert and Ann Williams in the census, the son of their daughter Jane Williams baptised on the 4 Sept 1842 .. the closest birth  I can find is the birth of a Williams male born in the first quarter of 1842 to a mother Mmn Williams .   I can’t order a screenshot so will order a certificate in the next couple of weeks.   I can track the family back to 1841 and forward through several census’.   Looking at the 1851 census and baptism registers together the numerous nephews and nieces are grandchildren as Cas suggested.
Thank you for your help in knocking down my brick wall .
