Frasers in South Africa
« on: Sunday 26 February 23 16:03 GMT (UK) »
My great grandfather was William Grant Fraser who left Scotland and emigrated to South Africa in the late 1800's. He was born around c 1864 and died in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1916. I do not know anything about his family. There are so many "William Grant Fraser"" in the search results. I do not know if he left Scotland alone or with his parents, of whom I know nothing.

Someone has started a family tree, you should be able to message some of the members who have added info. All you need is a free Familysearch account https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/G42L-SLC

Hello Pampoen, I'm afraid I have all the information you gave me. I know everything about William Grant Fraser's wife and descendants but nothing about his ancestors.

Surely then you should put this on the Scottish group and not the South African group.

have you tried looking for him on Scotlands People? If you look at the 1860 decade there are 5 possibilities. You can look at the recrds but it will cost some some money or you can go into your local family search library they have films that cover this time time period you would need to browse the appropriate film using the refernce given on Scotlands People

You might find some clues matching his childrens names to his possible parents

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
