Rationalising a 239 cM match
« on: Monday 27 February 23 13:48 GMT (UK) »
On MyHeritage one of my wife's closest matches, at 239 cM, is a female born 1954. Her parents would appear to both have been born in 1910. However, the match is a shared match with a 3C1R from my wife's GGF, sharing about 60 cM with both my wife and the unexplained match.

On this line my wife's GF had 3 brothers, born 1907, 1917 and 1919 but none had sons born before 1950.
Since 239 cM is consistent with a 1C1R is the most probable explanation for the match that one of these 3 great uncles is the biological father? Or is GGF having fathered one of matches' parents also reasonably plausible?

Have you compared the three of you in Chromosome Browser?  It's in DNA Tools -> Chromosome Browser

The three DNA profiles have a 37.7cM triangulated segment in chromosome 6. Unfortunately there appear to be no other descendants from this family line on MyHeritage

Hi,

I have 3 confirmed 1C X 1R on my list of Ancestry DNA results and they come in much higher than a 239 centimorgan match, mine are between 498 and 515 centimorgans.
Just thought you would like to know just as a point of reference for your 239 centimorgan match.

Regards....Helen.

There is also the possibility of the higher CM matches being related by more than one ancestor.

Additionally it could also include that the documented paper trail is possibly misleading.

ie the 1910 pair could be Grandparents!

Probably a waiting game to see if others show up as matches.

An Ancestry test could also be worthwhile as they have vastly more users who have had their DNA tested than My Heritage, they are 2x more than 23&me the 2nd largest.

Biggles the DNA is also on Ancestry, which has shown up two other high level matches from the same family which don;t match the paper trail. These two are both millennials so probably 2C/2C1R in some way I can't figure out.

Both these unexplained matches are closer than the only confirmed 2C who has their DNA on Ancestry!
