For elimination purposes;

The Will of Joseph Akehurst West Firle mentions his wife Elizabeth and Robert/Thomas Ellman and sister Mary?
+ Richard Ford Akehurst of Beddingham
+ My Sister FRANCES, Wife of William Stevens**

Marriage;
Elizabeth ELLMAN
Joseph AKEHURST
21 May 1792, West Firle, both Widowed**

His 1st Wife may have been Mary STEPHENS, married 16 May 1787, he was single, she a widow
+ possible Burial MARY Akehurst 08 Jul 1790.

A JOS Akehurst was a witness to the Marriage of SOPHIA Akehurst 06 Apr 1804

Thanks amondg for confirming what I thought.

The Marriage to Frances does not seem to be anywhere on line pre 1752 that I can see.

Thanks to everyone for all this additional info.
It looks like ive got the wrong Joseph,he was the only one i could find,but that baptism does seem to rule him out.The one to John and Mary is much more likely.
Ive tried every combination i can think of for Josephs marriage,using Job,John,Fanny,first names only in Sussex,but it looks to me like they didnt marry.
Any other info would be much appreciated.

Nel.

Hi All,

Fanny c1767 was my Aunty, her brother William my x5 gr grandfather.  They were the children of Joseph and Frances.  I've been told that the marriages are missing for this period because of the civil war, I could be wrong as it was a few years ago. that this was mentioned to me.  I too dont know Frances' maiden name.  Frances c1767 married William Stevens/Stephens and died c1855.  The Sophia Akehurst mentioned was probs her base born daughter c1787.
