Badly faded handwriting on a photo
« on: Monday 27 February 23 16:52 GMT (UK) »
We've just found a studio portrait of one of my great aunts we believe, and it has something written on it. Despite the ink being badly faded we think we know what it says, but we'd like a second opinion or two
Most roots researched back to the early/mid 1800s. Years noted as 'pre' refer to my direct ancestors, although I'm interested in any relatives:
Mitchelstown, Co.Cork: CORBETT (pre1935), SWEENEY  (pre1935), CUSACK? (pre1894), KEYS? (pre1894)
Mallow, Co.Cork: BROWNE (1895-1935)
Caher, Co.Tipp: BROWNE (pre1895), PURTELL(pre1895)
Cashel, Co.Tipp: FANNING (pre1886)
Llanelly, Carms: GRIFFITHS (pre1934), REYNOLDS (pre1901), WILLIAMS (pre1934)
Ton Pentre, Glams: LEWIS (pre1901)

I see Yours Sincerely but I'm not sure what else there is. I 'll try to bring it up.

Could the second line be Dolly? Alternatively, I was wondering if the first letter might be W.

Below that looks like a date - 6.1.23? But if so, the 1928 needs to be explained.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

The name does look a bit like "Deidre", I think it starts with "D".

It's just the name that is a bit trickier to work out isn't it but perhaps the date and year 6.1.23 will give a better indication as to who.

The finer writing at the bottom may or may not be 1928 :-\ so maybe the explanation arthurk could be that it is an image number of 19218 by photographer possibly to go with that scrawl, also thought W to begin with but Deirdre a fairly convincing interpretation.

What is the image on the  postcard? If it's a person, it could give an indication of who signed it. Also, does it have any clues on the back - divided, stamp box, etc.
