I would think Richard Adamson is the one who joined the army in 1855, serving in 89th and 38th Foot. He spent 10 years in India, and was discharged in 1870 intending to reside in Newton le Willows. He gave his birth place as Golborne which is less than a mile from Lowton.

Richard is in Newport, Isle of Wight, in the 1871 census, with wife Lucretia and mother-in-law Sarah Cole. He's an army pensioner.

Wow Shaun thank you. That was quick & would never have thought of that. Just looked at John’s baptism & hadn’t noticed abode Golborne. I live in the area so know it well. Will look at Richard’s marriage & see who he has as father

Richard says father John Adamson on marriage. Found other family trees with same information I have but gone with father John, totally ignored father Richard Bradburn.
