Must admit I cannot see a baptism - but you could order a PDF copy of the birth certificate from the General Register Office - exactly the same info as a paper copy, but cheaper.

Rosie99 provided the details you need.

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp

However, is the public tree on Ancestry yours? There is so much information on that, including a date of birth, his seaman's records - return from Washington etc, etc. along with a copy of his parents' marriage details.

As far as Clarinda is concerned - it is possible that she had taken up with another partner by 1871 and is recorded under his surname. Her death cert is on that informative Family Tree, although Johnston Morton was present at her death, described as Widower.

Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

stevie - you won't find a birth certificate for Johnston Morton - Civil Registration only began in Ireland in 1864 (except for non-catholic marriages when it began in 1845).

You are dependant on finding a baptism for him - and often, prior to 1830, they become more difficult to locate.

No doubt you are aware of the free site

https://www.irishgenealogy.ie

there is also Roots Ireland - but that is a subscription site.
I have looked on both and cannot see his baptism at the time you have given on your tree (which is a brilliant tree, by the way.)

In addition there is the free Family Search website. You have to register, but it's free to search.

I can't see a baptism on there either. (One of the frustrations of Irish research I'm afraid.)

Hi Pennines,
Its really hard to locate the correct info in Ireland, I think have as much as I am going to find, I will divert my attention to the lost Morton of Birkenhead now I have some more info. My next Irish target is a Peter Gallatley the father of Clarinda, who is marked as a distiller on her wedding certificate

Gallatley - Ireland,
Brownbill - Liverpool, Prescot
Burberry - Dorking
Bonnyman - Elgin/Buckie/St Albans
