Charles Ingram baptism Yarmouth
« on: Sunday 05 March 23 22:08 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Been a while since I posted

My ancestor Charles Ingram of Yarmouth was baptised in 1732.

His parents were Charles and Sarah Ingram, married in 1722

Now there are no baptisms in Great Yarmouth for Charles Ingram between 1690 and 1725

There is however one in June 1688. I am wondering if this is him, as it is the only baptism that realistically could be him. There is one in 1681, but I doubt he would marry as a bachelor at the age of 41.

He would be 34 in 1688, quite a late age, but not entirely implausible to marry at such an age.

There is a burial for a Charles Ingram in 1691, one of the baptisms could be for him, but there is no age recorded.

What are your thoughts?

my thanks

Hi,

I think that your hypothesis that the Charles who married Sarah in 1722 is the one baptised in 1688 is reasonable.

From my research, it appears that both the 1681 Charles and 1688 one survived into adulthood, married and had children.

The Charles Ingram buried in 1691 was an adult, as evidenced by his will:

Here is a little timeline hypothesis:

1681 - Charles 1, son of John, is baptised
1688 - Charles 2, son of Charles, is baptised
1709 - Charles 1 marries Mary
1722 - Charles 2 marries Sarah
1727 - Mary, wife of Charles 1, is buried
1728 - Charles 1, now a widower, marries again to Elizabeth

Transcriptions of these records can be viewed for free via FreeReg. I cannot guarantee that I am correct, but the information above seems to fit.

Hamlin/Hamlyn - Long Sutton & Martock, Somerset
Head - Marlborough & Alton Priors, Wiltshire
Minson - Kingstone, Somerset/Symondsbury, Dorset
Owsley - Buckland St Mary, Somerset
Pyke - (West) Weeke/Wick, Pewsey, Wiltshire
Salisbury - Dowlish Wake/West Dowlish, Somerset

Thank you for replying.

I think you are correct.

The Charles Ingram who died in 1691 was I think the grandfather of Charles who was born in 1688.

Charles born in 1688 had a father named Israel, born 1663, whose father was Charles who died in 1691, he was born in 1636

The baptism in 1688 is the only logical one for Charles because there are simply no records anywhere else for a charles ingram baptised between 1690 - 1705
