1616 Probate Gloucestershire - need help deciphering handwriting
« on: Monday 06 March 23 00:45 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am attaching the probate clause from a Will of 1616 for a person who lived in Minchinhampton.  The Executrix named in the Will was Johane Barnefield.  The penmanship of this clerk is very challenging and I need help in getting this transliterated.  I can translate once I know what is written in Latin.  I have highlighted the sections in yellow that I cannot decipher.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I should add that the name "Barnefielde" that appears at the beginning of the penultimate line can be ignored as it is part of the Testator's signature.

Hello,

I've had some insight added to several of the passages in the probate grant, above.  To save other Rootschatters some time and energy I'm posting this update, which includes what I had already determined together with the new insight added.  I have shown the portions that I am missing in bolded orange.

Probatu(m) fuit h(uius)mo(d)i testamentu(m) apud ........  [word cut off]
vicesimo sept die octobris 1616 coram JOH(ANNIS}
SEMAN legu(m) d(o)ct(o)re No(ta)ri(o) pub(lico)  [unreadable due to handwriting]
Glous Eps vicario in sp(ec)ialib(us) gen(er)ali et
p(er) ....... approbatu(m) et insinuate comissaq(ue)
fuit et est Ad......?  ..... Executrici etc
..... prius iurat

I am open to any additions and improvements anyone can provide.

Thank you.

Hi, Bookbox,

Thank you so much for taking the time to read, correct and complete this probate clause for me.  I really appreciate your knowledge and willingness to be of such a great help and service.

I never thought to check to see if this Will was on Ancestry - a tip I shall remember in future.
