Death of James Thompson/Thomson
« on: Monday 06 March 23 08:03 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for a death of James Thompson born 23 May 1817 Baptized 25 May 1817 Kirkmaiden, Wigtownshire, Scotland of parents Robert Thompson and Agnes Neilson.

There is a 1891 death record in NSW, Australia, however that Death Cert gives his Parents as Robert Thompson and Agnes Tervit, that he was born Carnwath. Age given is 71 and he arrived Australia 1841 .

There is a James Thomson 1820 Baptism in Carnwath to Robert Thompson and Agnes Tarbett

There is a 32-year-old James Thomson, born Kirkmaiden, in the 1851 census at Craigcaffie, Inch, Wigtownshire who would fit the one born in Kirkmaiden.

He's married to Jessie and has six daughters. I think Jessie is Janet McDowall.

They are in Stoneykirk in 1861.

Can you be sure that this isn't the son of Agnes Neilson?

One of the children of James Thompson died 1891 NSW has a middle name of Tervit which was stated to me to be another spelling of Tarbett.

Birth Information on Findagrave and familysearch were provided by me.

Can you be sure that the James Thom*son, born Kirkmaiden, age said to be 32 in 1851 and 41 in 1861, married to Janet/Jessie McDowall and living in Inch in 1851 and Stoneykirk in 1861, isn't the one you said you were looking for, whose mother was Agnes Neilson?

I have no information that confirms his mother was Agnes Neilson.
I've not found a death for him in Wigtownshire.

I have a copy of the 1841 & 1851 Census for Agnes Thomson/Thompson nee Neilson and I have a copy of her death 23 Jan 1861 at Port Logan, Kirkmaiden, Wigtownshire, Scotland.
No mention of James in any of these.

I am now totally confused.

You have listed baptisms of two different James Thom*sons, both with parents Robert and Agnes, one with mother Agnes Neilson and one with mother Agnes Tarbett/Tervit.

Which one is your starting point?

If it's the death in 1891 of the son of Agnes Tervit/Tarbert, where does Agnes Neilson come into it?

Alternatively, if you are looking for the death of Agnes Neilson's son, where does Agnes Tarbert/Tervit fit in?
