He may have returned to Wales after working in Yorkshire?    His son Robert Frederick who lived with his parents died in 1866 in Eston Yorkshire when according to Anc trees he was still living with his parents

John Cranage who is with them in 1861 is indexed on Ancestry as son in law, but I think the image says "sec cousin"

GRO confirms his mother's maiden name is Hazledine, which make him  John's H's  grandson (as per 1851), through his daughter Isabella who married George Cranage

Now to work out how  John H is related to the Ellises

Interesting marriage.  Maybe too young going by census age, but if correct Elizabeth would possibly be sister to Mary Ellis nee Aston?

Wales, Marriage Bonds, 1650-1900 (by Licence)
Llandaff, Glamorgan, Wales
Ref Llandaff A 105/16

John Hazeldine - Elizabeth Aston, spinster
Marriage 7 August 1809 Merthyr Tydfil
Marriage bond states he is a Yeoman, both living Merthyr Tydfil

In reply #2 is she the Elizabeth Hazeldine witness to the marriage? If so was married before 1818. Census ages could be out?

On Anc* by Licence, looks like the marriage

Name:   Elizabeth Astons
Record Type:   Marriage Banns
Marriage Banns Date:   8 Aug 1809
Marriage Banns Place:   Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire, Wales
Marriage Date:   1809
Residence Place:   both of This Parish
Spouse:   John Hazeld
Witness Sarah Smith & James Aston

Marriage entry on Freereg doesn;t help - https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5817dc97e93790eb7fb3f063/elizabeth-aston-john-hazeld-marriage-glamorgan-merthyr-tydfil-1809-08-08?locale=en

And they've only partially transcribed the surname

I was thinking the connection would be on John's side as he;s from Wellington, whilst his wife is from Merthyr according to 1851

With the truncated surname I;ve foud the marriage entry on Ancestry. Married by licence on 8 August 1809

Image does say Hazeld. Both of this parish. Witnesses Sarah Smith and James Aston(s). All mark their mark except Elizabeth. The main register has her surname as Aston but she appears to sign it Astons, and the name written by James' mark could also be Astons
