William Ovens (aka Vanhackovens) - Mary Dandy
« on: Wednesday 08 March 23 01:57 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,

I'm still digging around the Vanhackovens/Ovens family....trying to find the parents of a William (born around 1844) and Thomas (born around 1849) Vanhackovens/Ovens. Birth years from Poor school records. Their father was a Thomas and I have found a baptisim entry for a Thomas Van Hack Ovens (middle name Van Hack), who went on to marry a Mary Ann Lynham and had a number of children but not Thomas and William. He was 47 at the time of this marriage, so I'm assuming he may have been married previously.

I have come across a baptisim entry for a William Ovens, born 30th Dec 1843 and sent off for the birth record from the GRO which gives the mothers name as Mary Ann Ovens "formerly Dandy" and place of birth "Georges Yard". I have not found baptisim records for young Thomas.

I would like to get the marriage details of the parents Mary Ann and Thomas Ovens but have had no luck finding a record for a Dandy / Ovens marriage.  I've tried all the usual places MH, FindMyPast, Ancestry, FREEBMD, Family Search, but no luck even trying to confirm who this Mary Ann Dandy could be or further details on her husband. Any ideas on where else I could look?

William Ovens bapt 25 Feb 1844 St Mary, Whitechapel, Tower Hamlets
son of Thomas & Mary Ann Ovens

Many thanks!

Not every couple actually married so there may not be one to find.

Does the birth registration for young Thomas confirm mothers maiden name?

Also, what occupation does Thomas have on William's birth certificate?

I haven't found a birth registration for young Thomas yet, all I have are Poor School records which indicate Cornhill Parish London. I went through the Parish records thinking that is where he may have been baptised but didn't find anything. But that is where I found a record for a Thomas Van Hack Ovens who is potentially his father. The poor school records has Vanhackovens as the boys surnames and stated the father was in the Workhouse.

Married 1863 in Newport Hampshire, I believe Thomas was a mariner as when the younger Thomas married that is what was on his marriage certficate for the grooms father.

It just has "labourer", but on younger Thomases marriage certificate it has "mariner"
