Do you have any more info?

You could try for a birth in Scotland?

There is a William Norman McLeish, b Birmingham 1895, but not him, with parents 1901

There is this record, don't know if related

Hi
It would be helpful to have a few more details about his latter life.
For instance there is a William Norman Mcleish born Mar 1895 s of Charles Henry Mcleish born 1865 Birmingham and his wife Sarah Jane Gee working for the Inland Revenue.
William Norman goes to India and marries there 25.10.1928 to a Belinda Yeates Butler before dying in 1934.
However the family are together in the 1901 census

Then there is Henry Mcleish clockmaker born 1854 Birmingham.
1891 census with wife Elizabeth age 40 from Ombersley at Park Road Birmingham
Children Rose 11,George 8,Lucy 6 ,Lilly 4 and Elizabeth 1
1911 sees him at Benson Road with a new wife Martha -children Florrie 15,Elizabeth 13,Minnie 11 and Violet 8
He is now a corn merchant married for 18 years.
It would suggest a marriage 1893 but he actually seems to have married Mar qtr 1902.(if she is Sarah Matilda Mackay)
Florence is registered with mother's maiden name Price 1896
Elizabeth the first wife was died  June 1893 age 40
The youngest daughter Elizabeth from the 1891 census died 1896 and was buried at Witton .Her mother's maiden name Dyson . While the daughters Lilly and Lucy are border with sister Rose  and servant in 1901 in Handsworth.

1901 58 College Road Handsworth-Mcleach
Henry 44 clockmaker Soho
Martha 48 Aston
Thomas 13 Erdington
George 20 Soho
Florence 5 Winson Green
Elizabeth 4 Handsworth
Minnie 2 Handsworth

It looks like Martha already had a child Thomas in 1888.
I think Willie is Henry's son and  he could be Martha's first child.
There is a last daughter for Elizabeth -June 1893.

That does cover all the births in Handsworth 1883-1903,so they would be the most likely

Where does he fit into your FH?  Did he marry?  Are you descended from one of his children?

other than the  1901  census i have no knowledge of him. it just states he was adopted by my gt grandparents . living rookery rd. handsworth.
walter evans 60
elizabeth 59
daughters maud and marrian .aged 19 and 20.

i know after ther marriages  they both moved to scotland to live but both married someone born in birmingham and moved to scotland for their husbands work. the name mc leish crops up no where in the family except this census. they were just an ordinary working class family so why   they would adopt another child  strange. i wondered if he was a child of one of the daughters but cannot find his birth.
