John ANTHONY ca 1750
« on: Wednesday 08 March 23 17:37 GMT (UK) »
Mary ANTHONY was bap in Llanedi on 20 Feb 1758, father John, no mother’s name. The only marriage I can find, which is anywhere near in both time and location is:-

Llanon   16 Mar 1757   John ANTHONY  m  Elizabeth WILLIAM

A search for possible children yielded:-

26 Jun 1756   Ann
20 Feb 1758   Mary
31 Jul 1761    John
26 Aug 1765   William
17 Jun  1772  Margaret
23 Feb 1774  Edward
26 Feb 1780  Ebenezer   mother  Ann
03 Nov 1782  Isaac          do   Ann

There is a marriage of John ANTHONY (widower) to Anne GRIFFITH (spinster) in Llangendeirne (sic) on 21 Feb 1772, but I can find no burial of Elizabeth ANTHONY between 1765 and 1772.

Was Ann really baptized 9 months before John & Elizabeth married?
When did Elizabeth die?
What else am I missing?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I can see Ann's baptism as Non conformist and recorded at the same time as her siblings, have you found it in another register.  I am thinking maybe when this record was produced her father just got the year of birth wrong  :-\

Rosie,
Looking at the  ANTHONY baptisms in what appears  to be the Llanon PR, they have obviously been entered well after the event, possibly 23 years in the case of Anne. I assumed they had been copied from another document, but, if the human memory is involved.............   Fortunately, Anne is not my real interest so, if we have her baptism as taking place a year later, it has no effect - or I just ignore the discrepancy.

Osprey,
Agreed - but what became of Elizabeth?

possibly in the same Dissenters Burying Ground, but record hasn't survived or hasn't been transcribed. The register could be at the Record Office or the NLW.

Fortunately, it's not critical. We know that she must have died after the birth of William in 1765 and before John's second marriage in 1772.

Thank you both for your inputs.

I think this thread has already run its (brief) course, so I'll shut it down shortly.

Thank you; that has to be her. Location would be nice to have, but the date is more important.

I'm glad I didn't terminate the thread earlier!

Thanks again.
