Dates checks please, John Sharp and wife Hannah Milner.
« on: Friday 10 March 23 16:09 GMT (UK) »
I’m trying to confirm dates of Birth and Marriage of John Sharp, bapt. 22/8/1714 Bradford. d.1753 and his wife Hannah Milner b.1714. d.1798. Married 8/6/1767at Calverley? They had a son also named John. The information was passed on to me but not checked. Any help would be appreciated.

Actual Dates of birth are very rare on baptismal entries for that period

Did you check www.familysearch.org.uk to verify the info?

Wonder how many couples with those names married in Yorkshire?

Makes more sense than 1767 when they would both have been 53yrs old & Hannah too old to give birth

And John would have been dead for 14 years  :o :o :o

1767 marriage entry states that John is from the parish of Batley and is a Dry Salter.  The marriage was by Licence.  The transcription of the Marriage Licence Index says that John is aged 25, and that his bride SARAH HEY is aged 21.

Hannah Milner - there is a marriage at Calverley - 29 February 1764 - John Lumby, Clothier and again the marriage was by Licence.  Hannah said to be 21 and John is 23.

Transcriptions of Marriage Licence Index are via FindMyPast, and the marriage images are on FindMyPast (BT's) and Ancestry (parish registers).

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Batley All Saints - 29 September 1735

John Sharp and ...... Milner, by Licence, both of Gildersome.

No sign of a Marriage Licence entry for this marriage.  Both Ancestry and FindMyPast give the same information for the marriage - no forename for the bride.

BUT if we have John's surname as SHARPE - we have marriage licence entry (on FindMyPast) for John Sharpe, aged 22 of Bradford, and Hannah Milner aged 21 of Batley.  Intended marriage venue is Bradford!  BUT I can't see a corresponding marriage entry on either site.   :-\
