Just a couple of puzzles.
When did Peter return to Ireland?

There is a death in 1889 - Newcastle for Peter McElroy 59 yrs. Could that be him?

The only death I can see in Ireland, 1909 for Peter McElroy is in Monaghan but he is a married man and is living with a family in 1901.

You have mentioned this family - James and family in 1901

Do you know for sure that he is the brother to Peter? James’ father was Hugh. Does that fit?
James’ mother is Eliza, 85 yrs according to the census

Marriage - James McElroy

Here is James and family in 1911

Thanks a million....  You are brilliant !!!  I was following two wrong lines.  Thought the ages were way out! Coincidence about names running in family...Bernard and Peter. And Irish connection threw etc. Sometimes we can't see the wood for the trees!

Are there any details about informant or place of death in 1889  of Peter McElroy age 59?...that one looks more realistic'.

Back to the drawing board.   The T.V. programmers will never be able to follow my ancestors, too many missing links, lies and false leads...but most interesting, i must admit.   ::)

I just found the death in the indexes. You would probably have to purchase the death certificate.

Thankyou heywood, for details. I will ask for it tomorrow. It looks the most likely option. I wait with bated breath and will let you know a.s.a.p.

Now I can concentrate on Catherine (Gonzalez) McElroy {Nee Smith)...Peter McElroy's wife(?)
This is another enigma in my ancestory.

My birth family have been floundering for years to unravel the ancestors. Lots of stories and half truths/or lies.

I can’t find your family in 1881 to check the address but I can see a snippet of the death announcement.

The address looks to be 8 Lambton Place, Prudhoe Street,

Lambton Place but no number 8 that I can see is at 1881 5059 /12/15
