The index to ScotlandsPeople says he was born in Foveran in 1875 and that his mother's maiden name was Kelly.

The same index says Francis Grant married Jane Kelly in Foveran in 1861.

The 1881 census shows the family in Newburgh, Foveran:

Francis Grant, head, 51, seaman merchant service,
Jane Grant, wife, 40,
John Grant, son, 19, seaman merchant service,
James Grant, son, 14, scholar
Donald Grant, son, 11, scholar,
Jane Grant, daughter, 8, scholar,
Maxwell Grant, son, 5, scholar,
Mary Grant, daughter, 2

All born in Foveran.

The place you need to go is www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
