JOHN CAMPBELL   MARRIED   HELEN DOW   06/06/1755   KIRKCALDY

It looks like they only had one son?

CAMPBELL   JOHN   JOHN CAMPBELL/HELLEN DOVE   15/05/1763   DYSART

Deaths of father & son?

CAMPBELL   JOHN   HELLEN DOW   20/09/1785   DYSART
CAMPBELL   JOHN   JOHN CAMPBELL   07/07/1767   KIRKCALDY

There are four John Campbell’s born in Fife 1720 – 1738 on https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk but with so little to go on it will be hard to say, do you have any other information?

John Campbell was the Son of John Campbell and Janet Gibson married at Dunfermline 30th August 1764, Reference: Scotland Marriages, 1561-1910.

Only 3 posts, all involving John Campbells...but my head is sore already trying to follow...

"John Campbell was the Son of John Campbell and Janet Gibson married at Dunfermline 30th August 1764"

Which John, where born, when born, who did he marry, where did he marry, when did he die, where did he die, what children did he have???

We seem to have
1755 Marriage of John Campbell and Helen Dow/Dove, Kirkcaldy
1760 Death of John Campbell, Kirkcaldy, son of John Campbell, Kirkcaldy
1763 Birth of John Campbell, son of John Campbell and Helen Dow/Dove, Dysart
1764 Marriage of John Campbell and Janet Gibson, Dunfermline
After 1764 John Campbell born, son of John Campbell and Janet Gibson
1767 Burial of John Campbell, son of John Campbell, weaver, Kirkcaldy
1786 Burial of Helen Dow/Dove, wife of John Campbell, Dysart (note says 'Buried same day as husband')

As the marriage of John Campbell and Janet Gibson is after the marriage and before the burials of John Campbell and Helen Dow/Dove, these are plainly two completely different John Campbells.

Couldn't see any baptisms with mmn Janet Gibson.

How did you arrive either couple in the first place?

Hi Forfarian,
My information so far is limited --  Marriage of John Campbell/Helen Dow (Dove) 6 -06 - 1755 Kirkcaldy.   His parents:  John Campbell/ Janet Gibson married 1764 at Dunfermline.
I may have one or more John Campbells.  May need to do more research.
What is definite is  my John Campbell/Helen Dow had two children;  Duncan Campbell born 25 April 1782 and Catherine Campbell born  26 October 1778 both in Dysart, Fife.
Trying to fill in gaps backwards to the 1600s.
Hope this helps
Regards

That is all but impossible. Just think about the dates. Under what set of circumstances would John Campbell's  parents marry nine years after he himself married?

What additional evidence do you have to suggest that John Campbell and Janet Gibson are the parents of John Campbell who married Helen Dow/Dove?

According to the indexes at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk John Campbell and Helen Dow/Dove had five children, all baptised in Dysart
James, 1759
John, 1763
Margaret, 1766
Peter, 1770
Helen, 1772.

Quote
What is definite is  my John Campbell/Helen Dow had two children;  Duncan Campbell born 25 April 1782 and Catherine Campbell born  26 October 1778 both in Dysart, Fife.

Margaret Campbell, baptised 1778, and Duncan Campbell, baptised 1782, were the children of John Campbell and Catherine Horn, not Helen Dow/Dove. John Campbell and Catherine Horn were married in Dysart in 1778.

Where are you getting all this disinformation?

Before you try to work back to the 1600s, you would be better advised to make sure your information from the 1700s and 1800s is credible.

John Campbell and Helen Dow/Dove had two other children, both baptised in Dysart and indexed at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk as 'Camble'
Peter 1755
Marjory 1758

So they did. I should have searched for c*m*b*l* rather than c*m*b*l :)
