Hi Heywood.  many thanks again for your super powers and input!
Our Henry Musgrave re-married on 31/7/96 (we think) to K. O'Rielly...possibly no children with her... not proven yet.
However, our Henry was from a large family when they went to Oz; so perhaps other branches of the family went with them, or were already in Oz round about 1863 - that when they went on 'The Light Brigade'   Still some areas to prove beyond doubt....just in case i've gone off track again!
Catherines four last children seem to have survived. Gertude the youngest did not marry. The first born in Australia, died at the age of 2yrs.
Catherine died in 1891  aged 36.....when Gertrude was two. She had a hard life....giving George Wm. up for adoption and leaving everyone behind to go to an inhospitable environment thousands of miles from family.
Tracking HENRY MUSGRAVES family back to Cork. He has lots of siblings.  If they all stayed in OZ Their names may be passed on to children etc.   still searching... ::)

YES, he was the only son to HENRY AND CATHERINE...the rest were girls. One died aged 2.
His wife had a child she had adopted, in England. She left for Australia after his baptism in MARCH 1881.  made her way to PLYMOUTH and sail  in August to Austraila, arriving in JANUARY.

For a simple woman from the N.E. of England, and probaboy never travelled more than five miles from home, she must have had some spirit and true grit to take such decisions and move to the other side of the world to make a new life for herself.

The Henry who came with large family per “Light Brigade” in 1863 is the man who died in 1930 because his parents are correct and you already have the details of arrival and other information.

He is also the man who worked the Hotels around QLD as evidenced by the many snips from Trove which have been included in this thread and which one hopes you are viewing.

The woman who married one Henry MUSGRAVE 31/7/1896, Catherine O'Reilly died only months after. 19/11/1896 at Normanton which is in the far north of of QLD on the Gulf.

She was interred there in an unmarked grave.

Here is a news notice.

Burnes, Philip and Co were a huge import and merchandising firm .

To be certain the marriage was to the correct Henry, you would need to order the marriage certificate.

You need to click on marriage image PDF online then “add to cart,”
Use a card to complete transaction and it will be emailed almost immediately.

Henry MUSGRAVE who held the license for the National Hotel says he has a wife and no children.
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/44456723

That is interesting and worth more investigation as that death was taken from published trees and if I recall, shows his parents in the death record.  :-\

Thinking about this overnight, perhaps it means that at the time he had no children living with him.

And I agree with Sue, the best way to be sure of any subsequent marriages for Henry MUSGRAVE is to purchase the marriage certificates. Unfortunately there don't appear to be any marriage notices in the newspapers at the time.

Doreen,
If you have Ancestry, you could perhaps contact the tree owner. Of course, they would have to reply which may not happen.
There is also a contact for the tree on Family Search which indicates that much was added in September 2022 which is fairly recent.

HENRY MUSGRAVE married CATHERINE McELROY from Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. (they had five children) sadly she died in 1891. He married again, in 1896., and his second wife Katherine O'Reilly also died shortly after the marriage. HENRY MUSGRAVE DIED IN 1930.

HENRY MUSGRAVE'S  large family, from Cork, Ireland; went over to Australia in 1863 on the ship
'THE LIGHT BRIGADE' to Brisbane.

A HERBERT CECIL MUSGRAVE (CATHERINE Mc ELROYS/HENRY MUSGRAVES BOY?) married Hilda J. Harding, Connawarra, Ascot in 1931.

Although Henry Musgrave is a 'STEP GREAT GRANDFATHER' to me.....  (my biological Gt. G.Father is an 'extra first born child and son' to Catherine Mc Elroy...adopted and left behind in England before she went to Australia)...CATHERINE (KATE) Mc ELROY is my Gt. Grandmother. So children from the marriage of HENRY AND CATHERINE are part blood related to me.

I would like to put HENRY MUSGRAVE'S ancestors and descendants on my family tree; and back to 1800 or earlier. Any information gratefully received to round my research off on this branch of my ancestory.  Thank you for taking the time to read and digest this posting. I would be delighted to exchange history and notes.

It appears likely that Henry MUSGRAVE also married Emily Jane (Jean) GALBRAITH in Woollahra, NSW in 1897 - see reply #15. They are together on the 1913 electoral roll - see reply #6. She died on 30 June 1917 - see reply #13. Though you would need to purchase the marriage certificate to be certain it is the right Henry MUSGRAVE.

Henry and Kate's children, some of this you probably already have:

Vera Lucy - born 3 Dec 1883 died 16 May 1885 ("Vera Inez")

Herbert Cecil born 9 Mar 1885- married Hilda Janey HARDING 25 Nov 1931
                                                      - died 24 June 1963

Alice Muriel born 20 Dec 1886 - married William McGRATH 15 May 1919
                                                      - died 11 Nov 1947

Irene Ethel born 25 May 1888 - died 31 Mar 1969

Gertrude Ida born 4 Dec 1889- married Whylie HARDWICK 4 July 1923
                                                      - died 27 July 1983

(All from Qld BDM - https://www.familyhistory.bdm.qld.gov.au/)

Note also - Alice Muriel was a teacher before her marriage, a few notices on trove of her appointments and promotions, and resignation before marriage. https://trove.nla.gov.au

Maddys 52. Thankyou so much for advancing Catherine's childrens story forward. They are the half siblings of my Grandfather George William BEST, Mc ELROY (ADOPTED TO THE SHIELS) IN 1881. It's bringing them closer and more up to date on their  family story lines. Brilliant!

I am still trying to go backwards to CORK prior to the MUSGRAVE FAMILY'S journey in The Light Brigade to Australia in 1863....AS HENRY MUSGRAVE would be a Step-Gt. Grandfather....and A STEP FATHER TO GEROGE WILLIAM, adopted into the SHIEL FAMILY IN  GATESHEAD, prior to his mother, CATHERINE (KATE) Mc ELROY SAILING TO AUSTRALIA, after his baptism in GATESHEAD IN MARCH 1881.

Your information is very much appreciated.
