1841 census
« on: Tuesday 14 March 23 15:54 GMT (UK) »
Hello, would anyone mind looking at the image of the 1841 census for Joyse Frost age 65 at Heanor. Does it say Measour Row?
I've only seen a transcription on Familysearch but it doesn't sound right
Many thanks

I don’t think it reads “Measour” though I don’t know what it does read:

ESSEX: Cramphorn Raven Sams Sayers Taylor; GLOS: Beacham/Beauchamp; HERTS: Chamberlain Chuck; LEICS: Allot Bentley Godfrey Greasley Hunt Hurst Jarvis Lane Lea Light Woodward; LINCS: Lambert Mitchell Muse ; STAFFS: Hodgkins Jarvis; SURREY: Light; WARKS: Astley/Chesshire Bradbury Hicken/Hickin Hudson; WORCS: Ballinger Beauchamp Laight

I can see Measour Row but the address actually changes on the page before the entry for Joyce Frost .
I think it says Furnace Row and one of the first entries for that address has the occupation Furnaceman. The writing is difficult to read so other opinions would be  helpful.

For anyone else wanting to check, Joyse is at HO107/188/17 fo13 p21, and the street name is (probably) on the previous page.

I think it looks like Furnace Row, as Christine said, but I don't know if that actually existed. Go back to page 12, though, and there is what looks like Measom Row.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Thank you , it looks like Furnace Row to me, and Maria's husband Matthew Abbott was a moulder, so the houses probably belonged to his work. He was in Wigan finding work and moved the family up there later.  Thanks

Hello again
Does anyone know about the local church for Codnor Park? Williams baptism is at Ilkston  Primitive Methodist Circuit on 23 June 1841, which is odd as all others are C of E.
I was going to pay the record office for a copy but they want £15  and I don't think it will tell me anything more as there wasn't a chapel at Ilkston till the 1850s and  they tell me baptisms were performed by wandering preachers in homes, fields and barns.
Thank you

Hi,

Codnor Park was an extra parochial parish,  the following is a  explanation:-

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extra-parochial_area

Which explains why Cassandra and John, although different churches, were not christened at Codnor Park.

Cannot find the info you have re William, where did you obtain the info?
