Fixing a cover photo to Ancestry trees
« on: Tuesday 14 March 23 22:57 GMT (UK) »
I feel like I should know this or be able to find the answer on Ancestry help

I have several trees and the photo changes on tree  overview frequently + tends to be most recent picture I've added to gallery so could be a distant relative

Other peoples tree overviews seem to maintain a cover picture

I'd like to be able to choose which picture appears on each tree.

Hope that makes sense .
+ That someone can explain in simple terms how to do it .

Or maybe that's how the trees appear to me but to others they appear with a profile picture

Hi Brigid

I think that the photos that come up on Overview are headed 'Recent Photos' so, if you have added new images, they would appear rather than older ones.

I see a collection of photos on other trees
But their main tree photo seems to be the same .

I've looked at a few of those that I have ownership or editor rights and they all show the most recent photos as a strip.   If I'm a guest, it goes to the Media gallery itself.

I don't see a single main one on any of them.

Are you meaning the photo that comes up for an individual  on their profile page?

If I have a DNA match and look at their profile
That I don't match it comes up with the trees on their account and each tree has a profile pic
For example my late aunts tree has pic of the cottages in cambuslang where grandad was born
Even tho as co editor I can add other pictures
But  the trees I'm managing I don't see what this looks like to others

I remember clicking on a distant matches profile and seeing a picture of my grandparents as their "tree profile " pic but you are right it may just be latest pic they have posted and some trees profile pic doesn't change because they don't continue to add to their galle

No I don't mean their profile pic

If they have more than one open tree there is a picture accompanying each tree

Ah - you talked about  Tree Overview, which was what I responded to

Quote
I have several trees and the photo changes on tree  overview

Looking at the tree image on the profiles of my shared matches, as far as I can see, it seems to be the most recent photo that was posted in the Media Gallery.

Add - as far as I can see, a photo only come up against a tree if it is a linked (non-private)  tree and is the only tree that the match has listed.
