The 1921 census- you can search by employer and get an idea of the number and type of staff they had then.

This doesn’t seem to match this statement in the timeline online https://www.tillwite.com/history

“ Limited Company Incorporated
There was an acrimonious break-up between the two original founders of the business and the limited company was formed in February 1896. Thomas Till retained a partnership interest (below 50%), and subsequently less than 50% of the Limited Company shareholding from 1896. The original partnership document which was drawn up included a clause which resolved that in the event of a "falling out" between the partners, the partnership could not be dissolved. Till invested in a builders merchant locally which was sold in the 1970’s to a major merchant group.”

Thanks for the "tying up" here.   I may have to revise our website tillwite.com and once I finish the book / booklet I'll have a PDF copy uploaded.
What is the difference you are thinking here ?  ( I am missing it .......  )

London Gazette  https://www.thegazette.co.uk/all-notices

Check for "thomas john till" (include the "  " as part of search key) in Text Search field. Haven't checked for alternative search keys.

Hi, I have looked on the London Gazette site - how fascinating - thank you.

I knew that the founders Son - Wilfred Whitehead - was Managing Director at one point but didn't know when.   This is VERY useful in seeing a timeline of who ran the place.    This guys nephew passed away recently - he was the MD in the 80's and 90's and then Chairman until 2019 ( Stephen Napper ).

Also very interesting about when the founder Whitehead dies in 1926 !  I had no idea...

Thank you again,  Stuart

Thank you !  A date for when the other founder died.  I have one snippet only for the Son - also called Thomas Till, and that was that he was killed when he drove his car into a wall or tree in an accident.   Wonder if there any newspaper reports of that ? Think he was still quite young.

Kind regards

Stuart
