Asylum Location

Could someone please advise were the Cheshire County Lunatic Asylum was (around 1881)

I have a possible ancestor who may have been an inmate. She came from Macclesfield, but as far as i can tell the above asylum was in Chester. Some distance away! I was wondering if the Asylum may have had different branches closer to home or could she really have been moved so far away.

Regards

I think there was one in Macclesfield.  When I was a child and we were playing up my mother would say "if you don't behave you'll put me in Macclesfield!"

Parkside Hospital in Macclesfield.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thank you both for your information, much appreciated.

I recall a similar threat was issued, regarding another such establishment, here in Warrington  ;D

The Deva Asylum, Chester was built in 1829.
Deva = the Roman name.

Address and previous names included here www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/hospitalrecords/details.asp?id=1173&page=14

Stan included an old map, highlighting its location, on this thread www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=333377.0 The links on that thread unavailable today.
