There's an odd entry on a passenger list 

Minnedosa, leaving Liverpool  18 March 1921
Destination St John, New Brunswich, Canada

Alice Rowland, aged 34 (dob circa 1887) but recorded as a labourer

The transcript classifies her/he as a male but no indication of gender on the actual listing.

It would be good to see the photo. The photo board shows many ? age errors over the years. 

Nellie - just seen the pic. will have a look - first glance is that she could be younger.

Deirdre and Jebber re inaccuracy of birth dates on 1939 register….I was hoping that I might find her that way. I have tried all permutations of her name and with and without Rowland and also all the Alice Rowland marriages and married name in Sussex and Kent from 1911 to 1939
Argghhh….I don’t think I will ever find her then!

Are you sure she was still in Tunbridge Wells when the photo was taken (you say outside her home). Electoral registers might help if you can track down her address.

I am placing it at 1955(ish) as there is a picture of the brother with his daughter in Brighton and his grandson who was born in 1953. George is wearing the same hat and coat as in the previous picture

I tried to bring up her hand in the first pic using some of my photoshop rountines . There could be a ring but it pixelates, so not sure  :-\
