My Dr in Belgium asked me once what was bothering me —- I had said nothing about worries etc, he replied “ Your shoulders are up to your ears, there is something worrying you !What is it?”

Best of luck to you and LouisaMaude.

Morning  folks
Dull and quiet, we had rain overnight and it looks set for the day.

Sometimes I sit in a pew and realise I am  sloping down so I sit up and put my shoulders back, I don't want to become rounded shoulders, even when  I walk although I try to look where I walk I  walk upright, difficult sometimes as the pavements are so bad, I slipped twice last week on the  grass edges that were muddy after so much rain, luckily I didn't fall,

Not much going  on at the moment

Have a nice day and I hope everyone is feeling chipper, anyone know where that word comes from?

Morning all . Lovely sunny day here currently,  though very strong winds. Am changing the bed so hoping the wind keeps the rain off and I'll get the bedding out for a good blow dry with extra pegs !

LM my father always used to shout at me to stand straight so I have a bit of an issue about my posture. As I'm only small,  5' 3 , I don't think anyone notices my posture nowadays. I have deliberately never said anything to our girls about their posture and they are tall willowy ladies! Our eldest grandson who is 6 is up to my chin height already so he'll be past me very soon lol.

Chipper isn't something I've heard used much up this way. They'd be more likely to say ' canny' - be interesting to see what RTL says as a fellow northerner.

Yes, it will be interesting  to hear others take on the word

Your grandson might turn out to be a 6 footer,  we came from tall stock, the only thing against being  tall, at school was if was always me who got caught talking in assembly,  the shorter ones could mutter away and not get caught, but I did come in handy at netball,.

According to etymonline.com “chipper” is an American English version of kipper, of older northern English origins meaning nimble/frisky.

We do use it here, but not often, a bit old-fashioned, like you’d hear in an old movie.

The website is fascinating if you like word origins!
