Thank you ALL for your replies re: ABEL of Elgin.
We do not know where Margaret was born, (other than Scotland) but she died at Pembury Hospital, Tonbridge, Kent in 1958.
The Norman A. LEGGAT mentioned is definitely my father in law.
Again, thank you, and I will advise of further events as they happen.
Regards

I think you have the information you need, but as both MonicaL and Neale1961 have said, you need to check it all out by looking at the original documents at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. It's pay-per-view, but very modestly priced.

The 1941 marriage certificate will tell you the full names of both her parents, including her mother's maiden surname. As it appears that she was 39 when she died in 1960, that 1921 birth is an exact fit.

Glenmuick, Tulloch and Glengairn is a combined parish and registration district in Deeside (Aberdeenshire) which includes Braemar, Ballater and Balmoral Castle.

Skene is a parish and RD further east, between Deeside and Strathdon.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you for your response. I do tend to at least double check info as found having been suckered before. But again thanks for the advice.

There are lots of avenues to persue once you have confirmed some key details. There is a family tree, for example, on Ancestry. This shows at least 3 potential siblings for Margaret. Some original documents and photographs are included. Funnily enough, there are plenty on details on these potential siblings but nothing on Margaret.

Don't confine your 'investigations' to some online tree on Ancestry or any other commercial web site. Make sure to go back to the original documents to make sure that it's correct. Some online trees are excellent and well researched. Others are a fantasy compilation of disinformation, and not to be trusted.
