Finding a family member
« on: Tuesday 21 March 23 12:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi I have done quite well on my Bright side of the family tree since I was last on here. But am stuck on tracing my great great grandads birth record. Hi is a Frederick William Bright born 1858 Clifton Bristol. I have I hope found him in 1871 living with a Elizabeth Bright born 1798 Monmouthshire & a Elizabeth Bright born 1825 Clifton Brisol Im hoping this is Fredericks mum the 1825 one lol. I have found Frederick in 1881. But when I try to trace Elizabeth Bright born 1825 I cant find her in 1881 but in 1891 she is living with her daughter Olive Bright born 1869 clifton Bristol. But then where i found Frederick in the 1871 census with Elizabeth , Olive is not there , so to say im confussed is right . And i cant find a birth record either for Olive . Any help would be great thanks . I hope this all makes sence  :)

Let's start from a different point

What was your Great grandfathers name/birthyear/birthplace

Do you have your Great grandfather on any census with his parents?

You say you have your Great grandfathers birth cert - what was his mothers christian name and maiden name?

The only match in 1901 is a Frederick Bright living in Putney but he was a boat house steward - not a fireman.  He had a son Frederick W

Frederick Bright aged 30 occ fireman married Mary Ann Sissmore 1.1.1893.  Father Henry shown as deceased - no occupation shown

That would give a birthyear of around 1863

Son Frederick William b 1893

Going back from Carole’s find in 1901. There is:

1891 231/134
Frederick Bright, 32 yrs, Fireman b Bristol
He is a boarder in London

1881 5639/96/6
Frederick Bright, 23 yrs b Bristol
He is an Able Seaman in the Royal Navy

1871 2535 /48/23
You have this with mother Elizabeth, unmarried and grandmother Elizabeth

I can’t see him in 1861
There is a R N record.

Looks like he should have been 35 when he married but marriage cert definitely shows 30.  Mary Ann was 25
