If James was actually 70 when buried then his birth is likely to be about 1771/ 2. Two in Dorchester fit that both in 1771, James son of Mary (no father named) and James s/o John and Mary.

If your James was the illegitimate one and his mother subsequently married, he could have used his stepfather's surname to marry then reverted to Bartlett later.
