Richard Dacres Fleetwood Brickdale - obituary
« on: Thursday 23 March 23 01:39 GMT (UK) »
Hello from NZ  :) I am look for the obituary of Richard Dacres Fleetwood Brickdale https://www.familysearch.org/search/ark:/61903/1:1:QPCN-1NR8 that was published in the Norfolk Chronicle on November 21st, 1863 page 5. I am hoping his obituary may suggest what cemetery or what place he was was buried in New Zealand.

He also has a probate: https://www.familysearch.org/search/ark:/61903/1:1:QK9V-KHWT

Warmest regards,

Ashley

I don't have a subscription to findmypast (or British Newspaper Archive) however you can see a preview:

"DIED. On the lst of Sept, on his voyage to New Zealand, off Port Lyttleton, of a rupture of a blood-vessel on the lungs, Richard Dacre Fleetwood, youngest son of the Rev. Richard Brickdale, rector Felthorpe, in this county, aged 18."
21 November 1863 - Norfolk Chronicle

Thank you for looking that up for me maddy52,

I suspect he was buried at the Lyttelton Public Cemetery due to that he was a cabin passenger and from a very respectable family. But with Richard being so young I guess he could've been buried at Camp Bay Cemetery.

Kindest regards,

Ashley

How far “off port lyttleton” was it?  He could have been buried at sea.

That is possible, it depends what time the ship was signaled into the harbour.

I found this https://ndhadeliver.natlib.govt.nz/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE68958516 So it would seem he died before the ship was signalled into harbour?
