« on: Friday 24 March 23 10:38 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I was wondering if someone could help with confirming if the information I have is correct re PATRICK TIERNEY. - Was he on the Hive and was his wife and 2 children with him or did they follow on a later ship? Any help would be greatly appreciated  :)

PATRICK TIERNEY – Born 1804, Clondalkin, Dublin, Ireland. Enlisted as a Soldier in the 1/28th North Gloucestershire Regiment of Foot on 15/5/1826. Came to Australia on the ship "Hive" on 1/10/1835 with the Regiment. Wife Bridget (REYNOLDS), daughter Margaret 10 & son Michael 3 also came to Australia.

TIA
Deb

The Australian newspaper site Trove   https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/

There are various reports of the Hive leaving Dublin 24 Aug 1835. In addition to 250 male prisoners the passengers included " ... twenty-nine rank and file of the 28th, 8 women and 11 children ..."

There's a lengthy report of the Hive going ashore and the saving of the ship in the Launceston Advertiser, 14  Jan 1836.

I did see that but there is no mention of who they were. - Thought there may be a list like there is for convicts

Just checked on National Archives

Just Google:

A2a

(This records is available from: ANCESTRY)  Sorry, I don't subscribe any more, so can't call up the document.

Medical and surgical journal of the convict ship HIVE from 12 July to 10 December 1835)

Reference: ADM 101/34/9

by A DONOGHOE, surgeon and superintendent during which time the said ship was employed on a passage from Ireland to New South Wales.

It does have a short list of names of Soldiers and Convicts, although a quick look the name Patrick Tierney doesn't appear on the National Archives' list, but an interesting list of their illnesses etc.
